Don’t get me wrong—I LOVE the students. It is just really hard to keep the attention and control 5 year olds—especially when they don't speak your language! Most of the kids are way cute and great, but there are a lot of trouble-makers. The other teachers and I have all agreed that this is one of the hardest things we’ve ever done. Sometimes we get back from teaching and we’re all just exhausted. On top of that, all of us teachers have gotten sick since being here! The kids don’t have very good hygiene and they’re always sneezing and coughing on us—we didn’t last two weeks! I think out of all the teachers, I got it the least amount. Some of them were bedridden and throwing up, but I just had a cold and a very small fever.
Basically we all needed a pick-me-up. On September 19th, we went into town for a girls night out to the movies! We heard there was an international theater in town and we wanted to try it out. We grabbed some fried rice and popcorn and went to watch The Amazing Spiderman. We thought it might be in English or even have English subtitles, but the show time we went to was all in Chinese. Kiera and Mandy (the only two who had seen it) spent most of the movie explaining it to everyone.
For those of you who has seen the Amazing Spiderman, sometime ironic is that earlier that day Leah accidentally cut off the tail of a lizard. We thought it was funny…
After the movie, we found this wall covered in notes. We’re not sure what this wall was about—but we wanted to contribute to it!
This was the cleverest thing I could think up on the spot. Yes I am a Harry Potter nerd; glad we established that.
Even though we couldn’t understand the movie, it was a lot of fun getting out! Plus, teaching has become a lot better since.
