1.5 hour plane ride, 8 hour layover, 13 hour plane ride, 3 hour layover, 2 hour plane ride, 8 hour bus ride

Apparently it takes  A LOT of traveling and time to get to China. But I’m finally here and loving it! Before I tell you about this crazy, awesome country…here’s the path that took me here:
survival kitAbove is my survival kit for how I dealt with the long voyage—these things were life savors! Especially my neck pillow to help me fall asleep!
Whitney, Kiera, Shayne, Alysa, and I all met at the airport Wednesday afternoon on August 29th.IMG_2652IMG_2650IMG_2653
Leaving on the airplane. Goodbye Utah!

Arriving in Las Vegas (see next post for details).IMG_2659Waiting to get on the plane to Korea and being really excited to use our passports.

The flight attendants are the cutest Korean women who all look the same with their hair in a tight bun, the same pearl earrings, same outfits, and even the same eyeliner. They were just really great because of how cute they all were with their Korean accents. “Excuse me, would you like some coffee?” (no thanks). “Excuse me, would you like a like a hot towel?” IMG_2712IMG_2704
Although Korean Airlines treated us really well (I can’t tell you how tempted I was to steal that blanket), it was one of the worst night-sleeps I’ve ever had. I’m not very good at falling asleep in chairs.

Layover in Korea. After experiencing over 18 hours of darkness, it was weird watching the sun rise and knowing it was the middle of the afternoon in Utah. IMG_2729IMG_2728
Then on the plane again to our final destination—China! Flying over Korea and Korean lunch. IMG_2742IMG_2744
My first glimpse of China!

The ocean outside of China is covered in boats and sadly the water isn’t very pretty…just kind of brown.

Finally in China where we got our suitcases and met up with our other two teachers—Leah and Mandy.
IMG_2764IMG_2766IMG_2769While waiting in the airport we went into our first Chinese store and I bought chocolate milk! We also met our translator from the school, Mary, who is sitting next to our head teacher, Kiera.

And then we piled into this van with all our luggage and prepared for a long drive.  DSCN0049IMG_2773
